Travis, AKA "Justin," has been with
us since middle school. He was instrumental in helping us with our donated
computer lab at Jerstad and is now helping with computers at Horlick High
School in Racine. He has also recruited his brother and many friends to
help as well. Travis is willing to help with any and all special projects,
and has been involved in several. Recently, he was responsible for preparing
the 45 computers we shipped to Clayton New Mexico, most of which he repaired
and configured at his home, on his own time, as "he doesn't have a life."
We tease and kid him a lot--most of it deserved--but he is always
ready to do the hard work without complaint. Travis epitomizes the volunteer
spirit of Tech Corps Wisconsin.
In
recognition of his long volunteer service and graduation from high school,
Lynn Schattner was recently awarded a plaque by State Coordinator Michael
F. Pitsch.

Fred Jennings is one of our
most worldly volunteers, who can handle pretty much anything that we need
done based on a wide range of life experience. From building work benches,
to driving trucks and hauling computers, to plowing our way into a school
for a project he has become an essential part of our operations. It is the
diversity of the experience of our volunteers that make us greater than
the sum of our group. Fred has gone from an occasional volunteer to a regular
Gateway intern and is now adding another dimension by getting serious about
improving his technical skills. Fred has gone above and beyond the call
on many occasions, and is always ready for another "mission" on Saturday's
or anytime. His recent outstanding work on the Karcher, Dyer and Winkler
projects are just further samples of why he is our "Volunteer in the Spotlight."
Lynn Schattner, aka "The Kid," is one
of our most experienced volunteers, having started as just a pup almost
four years ago. Lynn has gone from PC fixer to printer repairman and now
to network terminator and reluctant printer repairman. Lynn has gone above
and beyond the call on many occasions, and is always ready for another "mission."
His outstanding work on the Jerstad and Dyer projects are just further samples
of why he is our December 2000 Volunteer of the Month.
Charlie Baumeister, or "Charlie
B" as he is called, is one of our first and most dedicated volunteers.
Charlie volunteering dates back more than two years to when we were at the
old building. Having the dual attributes of being retired and having a pickup
truck, we have used Charlie's willingness to help to excess many times.
We have also loaded his truck down to excess many times. He is always available
for a "mission", and sometimes this means several volunteer efforts in the
same week. He exudes the true spirit of a Tech Corps volunteer.
We hope that our small gift and this recognition serves as a token of
our appreciation.
In recognition of their volunteer service and graduation from high
school, Scott Gehrig, Jason Howser and Gerald Hagen
were awarded plaques recently by State Coordinator Michael F. Pitsch!
