WISCONSIN
PRESS RELEASE
October
14, 2002 Racine, Wisconsin
Tech Corps Wisconsin, Inc. (TCW) is pleased to
announce the latest effort in its continued support of children in the state
with the announcement of an expanded PC's for Families Program.
The PC’s For Families project is directed at
reducing the “digital divide” in Racine
County.
The “digital divide” describes the gap between people who have access to
technology and those who don’t. PC’s For Families will strike at the
heart of this “divide” by placing personal computer systems into the homes of
qualifying families. Placing refurbished computers into the homes of
families who don’t have the financial means to purchase a computer will not
only enhance the children’s education but it will also allow the parents to
become part of the “electronic world”, said Michael Pitsch; Executive Director
for Tech Corps Wisconsin, Inc, a Racine based volunteer group. In
addition to providing the families with computer technology, they will receive
basic computer skills training, technical support and Internet access for the
computer systems.
Through a joint arrangement with Racine
Unified
School District's,
21st Century Learning after-school Lighted Schoolhouse Program and Next
Generation Now family support center and daycare, this new Tech Families program will involve 300 qualifying families
receiving computer systems, Internet access and training from October 2002 to
June 2003.
We need your support to
allow us to continue to do this work. To volunteer, donate or sponsor please
